Newquay Cross Country in Arctic weather

November 12, 2017

The second race in the Westward League Cross Country season and the first in the Cornwall championships, this cross country race for the senior men involved 3 laps around the exposed playing fields of Newquay School. A gusty Arctic wind made the race much harder than it should have been, often blowing into your face impeding progress, or blowing across your face and making breathing difficult. At one point a brief shower blew in and we were hit with cold stinging rain in our faces. Nonetheless, despite the significant rainfall of the past 24 hours, whilst damp and a bit soft underfoot, the fields weren't the muddy quagmire that was expected. An interesting experience and quite different from the typical grand prix and multi-terrain series races which typify the Cornish running scene!
