Mawnan Fun Run - 5K distance

Racing on consecutive days is never advised for health or performance, but I figured I could get away with the rapid Mawnan 5K the day after the Lanhydrock 10 miler. Starting from the Carwinion Playing Field at the top of Mawnan Smith, the Mawnan Fun Runs offers a 5K and 10K race distance, as well as a 1 mile fun run for children.

The Mawnan 5K is the same as the 10K for the first 4km. This section in common starts on the road outside the playing field and takes in a long fast downhill to the Red Lion pub before turning left and climbing out of the village before descending to Trebah Gardens. Runners go into the entrance of the gardens but before going into the gardens proper, turn right and a take a rough track which climbs back to the road and back up a gentle uphill, before descending back to the Red Lion Pub.

The 10K runners turn left here, but I turned right on the 5K and climbed up the long drag back to Carwinion, my legs really feeling Lanhydrock in them by this stage!

A nice local race well supported by Falmouth Road Runners and with some good prizes too!
