Summer Turkey Trot 2010 

The rain held off long enough to give the competitors a dry run.  The usual hog roast and BBQ afterwards was much appreciated by the hungry hoards (except for Jan and Sarah who came prepared with healthy salad!).

We had a great turnout, 30 FRRs took part and completed the fast 4-mile course.  Jan showed no ill effects from her recent Ironman, coming 2nd in her age group.  And a special well-done to Tamsin for showing such tenacity.

Magnificent 7 & Haytor Heller

"Sarah and I did a double whammy this weekend. The Haytor Hellor off road event (6 miles) on Saturday evening (organized by Teignbridge Trotters - see pic below) and then the Mag 7 GP race at Saltash on Sunday. Both were decidedly hilly but the scenery at Haytor, Dartmoor, was stunning. There was also a good bbq with a jazz band and real ale. Definitely one for the diary. 

I was 1st in age group at both events so am loaded up with wine and fruit.

There was a good turnout at the Mag 7 – 15 runners from Falmouth. Richard was 1st man home and Jackie 1st lady.

This was the fifth running of this 7 miles race around Launceston, taking in some scenic countryside as part of a challenging but fast course.

Truro Half Marathon - 19th Sept 2010

571 runners competed in the Truro Half Marathon on Sunday.   Richard Dalton had a storming run, finishing 11th overall -  a huge well done to him, we have seen great improvements from him over the last year.  Also, Terry Marshall has added to her medal haul, coming second in her age category - that trophy shelf must be groaning under the weight by now!

Redruth 10k 2010

Well done to all those who took part in the Redruth 10k on Sunday 31st October 2010.  A great run from Steve S, who finished 12th out of the 113 who took part - nice one!  Also, Sarah Webb came 2nd in her age category, and Chris White 1st in hers.

Cornish Marathon 2010

They came, they saw, they ran, they were knackered.  Eight brave FRR souls took on the 26.2 mile very undulating course which winds its way through the 'Cornish Uplands'.  A review from one of the brave will hopefully shortly be posted, together with a pic or two. 

Club results are below, full results are HERE. Jan Watson continued her fantastic year by coming first in her age group; and Jacqui George picked up 3rd in her category - way to go ladies!  Rich Dalton made it around despite having an injured ankle, and in a very respectable time too.

And of course, this marks the last race in the 15 Cornwall Glass & Glazing Grand Prix races throughout the year.   We have several club members picking up awards for completing at least 8 of the series at the presentations after the Mob Match (Sunday 28th November), and of course the Famous Five (Debra Clarke, Sarah Choak, Jacqui George, Richard Dalton and Roger Brown) will be picking up very special awards for completing all 15 races - what a fantastic achievement!

Stan's 80th Birthday 

Our club Secretary, Stan Gwynne, celebrated his 80th birthday this week.  We surprised him on club night with a specially made cake, complete with trainer shoe on the top!  Stan is a founder member of the club and has put in a lot of time and effort to keep the club running over the years, in fact without Stan, who knows whether the club would be here today.  CONGRATULATIONS STAN!!!  And of course the cake was so huge we just had to help him eat it...

Despite the attempts of the weather to sabotage the race, the day itself was beautiful, bright and sunny, if a tad chilly.  Many thanks to all 416 competitors who took part.
 
As we had most of our active club members helping out in some role or another, there weren't meny left to run for us, but despite this we still managed to get 8 runners:

Well done to all our members who picked up an award:

There was the 'Falmouth (Famous) Five' who completed all 15 races of the Grand Prix - Jacqui George, Sarah Choak, Debra Clarke, Roger Brown and Richard Dalton.

Not happy with 1 trophy, Richard also came away with 3rd place in the Mini Grand Prix, plus the most improved male runner for 2010.  Jan picked up 2nd place in her age group and Terry 3rd place in hers.

The 8 Race Qualifiers included: Jules Evans, Andy Pye, Kim Hemsworth, Dave Wilton, Roy Newton, David Garrard, Jan Watson, Tammy Jenkin, Marisa Falcione, Terry Marshall, Tracey Wilkes, Lorna Woods, Helen Brown, Chris White and Noelene Barrie.

The Club also picked up a further 2 trophies - 7th place in the Female Team and 11th place for the Male Team.

An excellent achievement!

 14 Nov 10 - Marazion Remembrance Run - Report by Sarah Choak

Well Sarah, Jan and Phill (Knucky) were standing in the two minutes silence shivering like jellies whilst the wind was roaring, the rain pelting down then the hooter was blown and off we went. Across slippery rocks and seaweed with pebbles and sand mixed in as well. Along we ran with the waves crashing at and over our feet we reached the turning point - at least the wind was behind us! Back along the beach to the finishing line job done! Sarah was 1st in the over 40's , Jan was 2nd.

11th December 2010 - Falmouth Santa Run

 A few FRRs took part in the Santa Run in Falmouth - Richard was the quickest for the club by all accounts -well done! Here they are pictured getting into the festive spirit in Wetherspoons!
 12 December 2010 - Christmas Turkey Trot 2010

Only eight FRRs made it over to Redruth for the normally popular 4-miler starting from Tricky Dicky's. Maybe it was the cold? Maybe we didn't publicise it enough at the club? Who knows, but we had some great results anyway.

Paul Gwynne (yes, Stan's son who has migrated over from Truro Running Club) was the first home for the club in a fantastic time of 24:30, was 10th overall and won his age group. A great start to his running career at Falmouth! Jan Watson did not disappoint - she also won her category - a great year she has had indeed. Also really good to see new members Mike and Cathy Leyshon out there. Alec won a spot prize of a bottle of wine, much to his amazement!
